Theoretical Knoweledge
The theory is conducted in our new bright, spacious and air conditioned classrooms in our Hangar. The subjects are presented in a combination of lectures and computer based exams. The subjects covered are as follows.

Basic Aeronautical Knowledge (BAK)
This course is a requirement for students who wish to do our 150 hours syllabus for CPL course (student will have to obtain their CPL within a period of 36 months, otherwise the 200 hourssyllabus applies). This written exam is sat at the school.

Private Pilot Theory Examination (PPL)
1. Aeroplane Operation
2. Performance and Planning
3. Meteorology
4. Aeroplane General Knowledge
5. Navigation
The PPL examination is sat at the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji Islands (CAAF). Subject matter from the BAK section of the course is also examinable again at this time.

Fiji Air Law
Class will be conducted by our Theory Instructor before sitting for exam at CAAF.

Flight Radio Telephone Operators (FRTO) Theory
Students are required to do an independent study before sitting for the exam. This is an in-house exam.

Flight Training
A candidate must have a minimum of 40 hours flight time prior to being recommended for a flight test. However, if long caps occur during your training, additional revision training may be required. Our flight tests are conducted by an Approved Flight Testing Officer from the Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF). Licenses are also issued by CAAF.

Course Duration
We at PFS know that you will need to work hard to obtain your PPL (A).
Majority of our regional students who come to Fiji to do their training have limited time to complete the course. The complete PPL (A) course can be completed in as little as 90 days. However this requires a full time commitment and a lot of preparation in the theory subjects. Realistically this can be completed in 9 weeks. However, we at Pacific Flying School can tailor the syllabus to suit your personal needs and you might consider taking your training on a part-time basis, i.e. weekly, monthly or as often as time and budget allows.
Should you require any further information related to this course, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Commercial Pilots License

Close to 200 graduates of Pacific Flying School are currently employed as pilots by major airlines across the globe such as Emirates, Oman Air, Etihad, Cathay Pacific, Virgin Pacific etc. Pacific Flying School has developed a strong reputation with most of the carriers in Fiji and the South Pacific region, including our national carrier Fiji Airways.
For students wishing to become qualified Commercial Pilots, Pacific Flying School conducts training which can be completed within 12 – 18 months. The bulk of theory training is conducted by qualified instructors as classroom, tutorial and computer based sessions.
Familiarization flight training is carried out using Visual Training Systems (VTS). This facilitates flight checks, procedures and general handling using simulators that represent the cockpit of aircraft.
This course will provide the student with the coveted CPL/MECIR all of which are essential for anybody aspiring to work for the airlines.
The course commences several times a year and includes an extensive theory course and a minimum of 150 hours of flying in both single and twin engine aircraft. At the successful completion of the course, the candidate will hold an ICAO recognized Fijian Commercial Pilots Licence with a Command Instrument Rating and a Multi-Engine aircraft endorsement. Fijian licenses and other qualifications are highly recognized worldwide and particularly by member countries of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Duration: 18 months

Theoretical Training: At Pacific Flying School, we offer a combination of Computer Based Training and lectures. We are able to provide students with instruction for the CPL, Instrument Rating and Basic Gas and Turbine theory. The short version one year course allows for a minimum of 150 flying hours to Multi-Engine Command Instrument Rating and Fiji Commercial Pilots Licence. A maximum of 20 hours instrument training will be undertaken in our synthetic flight trainer.
The CPL Course includes BAK, FRTO and Air Law along with more advanced subjects as follows:

  • Aerodynamics- Aircraft General Knowledge
  • Performance Flight Planning
  • Meteorology
  • Navigation
  • Human Factors
  • Instrument Rating Theory (IREX)

Each of the subjects above are examined separately at the CAAF exam room every Friday using the Australian Cyber exam system. If a candidate fails, he/she may re-sit after the Theory Instructor is satisfied that sufficient revision study has been undertaken.

Flying Training: A candidate must have a minimum of 70 hours solo of flight time (150 hrs Syllabus) or 100 hours solo flight time (200hrs Syllabus) prior to being recommended for a flight test with CAAF. Licenses are issued by CAAF. If the candidate has not reached the required standard for testing then additional flying may be required. Failure at any stage of the course will result in the course taking a little longer than the above estimate.Every effort is made to minimize additional cost.
Pacific Flying School has a dedicated fleet of four Cessna 172 aircraft for single engine and an Islander for multi engine flight training.
